Getting Started 🚀

What is KrypNotes?

KrypNotes is a secure, offline-first note-taking application designed to help you capture and organize your thoughts, tasks, and important information with complete privacy. It offers a rich-text editor, folder organization, a built-in to-do list, and powerful security options to keep your notes safe on your device.

How do I create my first note?

From the main 'Inbox' screen or from within any folder, tap the floating + (plus) button at the bottom. This opens the note editor where you can add a title and start writing. Your progress is saved automatically when you leave the screen.

How do I use the To-Do list?

Tap the 'To-Do' icon in the bottom navigation bar. You can add a new task by typing in the input field at the bottom and tapping the send icon. You can mark tasks as complete, delete them by swiping, set reminders with alarms, and use the dropdown menu at the top to filter your view.

Your Privacy Comes First ✅

Where is my data stored? Is it private?

Yes, your data is completely private. All your notes, folders, and tasks are stored exclusively on your device's local storage. The app works completely offline. We do not have servers, and none of your personal data is ever sent to us or any third party.

Do you have access to my Master Passphrase or my notes?

Absolutely not. Your Master Passphrase and the content of your notes are yours alone. We have no way to access or recover them.

Security, Privacy & Locking 🔒

What does the Master Passphrase do?

The Master Passphrase is the single most important key for your security in Krypnotes. It has two primary functions:

  • Locks Protected Notes: It acts as the key to view the content of any note marked as "Protected". Biometrics can be used for faster access.
  • Encrypts Backups: It encrypts the entire contents of your backup files. Without the passphrase, the backup file is unreadable.

What's the difference between 'App Lock' and the 'Master Passphrase'?

App Lock locks the app using your device security (Face/Fingerprint/PIN).
Master Passphrase encrypts backup files and unlocks protected notes.

How do I set up my Master Passphrase?

Go to Settings > Security and tap "Set Master Passphrase". Follow on-screen instructions.

How do I change my Master Passphrase?

Go to Settings > Security and tap "Change Master Passphrase". You will need your current passphrase.

What happens if I forget my Master Passphrase?

You will permanently lose access to protected notes and encrypted backups. We cannot recover it. Store it safely.

I reset my passphrase. Why can't I restore an old backup?

Backups are encrypted with the passphrase active at creation. Only that passphrase can restore the backup.

How do I protect an individual note?

Set Master Passphrase in Settings. Open a note, enter Edit Mode, tap the lock icon. The note is protected.

Do I have to use my fingerprint or passphrase every time I view a protected note?

No. After authentication, a secure session lasts 5 minutes of inactivity.

How do I enable Biometric Unlock for my protected notes?

Go to Settings > Security > Note: Biometric Unlock. Toggle on and authenticate once with Master Passphrase.

Organization 📁

How do I organize my notes into folders?
